<<>> A Visit from the Cape Ann Museum <<>>

Fourth grade had an excellent visit with Cathy Kelley, the education manager and teacher from the CapeAnn Museum. Generously sponsored by the Friends of the Arts, fourth graders across the district participated in an in school field trip with Ms. Kelley. She brought all the supplies and fun for fabric printmaking!

The student really enjoyed her presentation on design and the Gloucester printmaking group the Folly Cove Designers. Formed by author and artist Virginia Lee Burton, the Folly Cove Designers used pattern and perspective to tell their stories with block prints. Ms. Kelley even brought in a museum artifact of one of the original carved blocks! Each student drew a picture on foam, cut it out, rolled on white ink, and printed their drawing multiple times on fabric like the Folly Cove artists. Everyone created an artwork to take home and they had a lot of fun. A big thank you to the Friends of the Arts, Cathy Kelley from the Cape Ann Museum and everyone who helped me coordinate the visits!
