Welcome back to the Buker Art Room blog!

I hope everyone had an excellent summer!  All of the students had a lot to share about their summer trips, camps, pets, and families.  I am looking forward to teaching four grades this year with Mrs. Olivera's 2nd, Mrs. Bernardo's 3rd, Mrs. Aikins' 4th, and Mrs. Geraghty's 5th.  During our first Art class meeting, students learned about the Art Room, discussed our classroom routines and made a sketchbook.  I hope the sketchbooks become a nice creative tool for them to use this school year.  Upper Elementary also, gave me written or drawn feedback on what they wanted to study this year, what was not successful for them last year and some of their favorite art techniques.

Last week, we started our September projects.  Fifth grade is making ceramic cupcakes by learning an advance coil technique and using clay attachment.  Fourth grade started a 2D square design project and learned about clay attachment with a 3D clay bird.  Third grade is being introduced to printmaking with Gyotaku, fish printing, which will be finished with a painted background.  Second grade is creating 2D Space Art and adding details with metallic sharpies. What a fun start to the school year!
